HMS Caroline moved to drydock

HMS Caroline moved to drydock

The Blu Marine team have been busy helping the HMS Caroline prepare for drydock. The ship which has not been moved since 1988 is going into H&W Shipyard, here in Belfast to undergo hull repairs before opening once again to the public. The public attraction which has received a 5* rating from Tourism Northern Ireland will be returned to Alexandra Dock in Belfast Harbour in February 2017.
One of the tasks undertaken by Blu Marine was the removal of the mast before the ship was moved, it will be repaired in our Belfast workshop by specialist marine joiners to ensure it can be admired for at least another 30 years.

The mast which was carefully unbolted, was then lifted by crane and positioned onto a lorry which carefully brought it the short distance to the Blu Marine workshop where another crane unloaded the mast into the yard.

The move to the shipyard took little under an hour, with excellent views from the Blu Marine office windows.
