CUK – Queen Mary 2
The remastering of Cunard’s prestigious Queen Mary 2 saw the Blu Marine Team fly into Hamburg at the end of May. The ship which was drydocked for 3 weeks had a major revitalisation, the largest ever undertaken by CUK, with circa 2000 contractors onboard to complete the works. The Blu Marine Team consisted of 81 people of various trades, including Joiners, French Polishers, Upholsters, Decorators & Carpet fitters.
The Team was kept busy with the full re-upholstery of the Royal Court Theatre – the largest theatre on all Cunard’s ships, the carpeting works throughout the public areas onboard, the sanding and lacquering of the dance floors in Queens Room & Commodore Club, upholstery and French polishing in 11 other public lounges, decorating throughout the ship, various joinery works & over 3000 metres of corridor handrail recovered.
The Team finished up 6 days prior to the dry dock completion and undertook additional works including ramp repairs & upholstery works before heading home ahead of schedule.
Senior Project Manager, David Bartholomew added that the project was ‘an excellent benchmark for refits going forward, well resourced, managed and executed to programme & budget’.
A massive well done to the Team and thank you to everyone involved in what was a fantastic refit.
Cunard followed the QM2 remastered journey and some excellent videos of the refit can be found at the following link – look out for the Blu Marine Team!
